Innovative African Solutions to Global Ocean Challenges
Advancing Ocean Inclusive and Sustainable Economic Development through Adaptive and Evidence-based Ocean Governance and Conservation

Our Approach, Mission and Vision
Under the mantra of providing innovative African solutions to Global Ocean Challenges, our mission is to drive sustainable ocean development across Africa by delivering innovative and evidence-based consulting solutions. We are committed to fostering inclusive and adaptive ocean governance that empowers communities, preserves marine ecosystems, and aligns with global sustainability goals. Through collaboration, integrity, and a deep understanding of local and regional contexts, we aim to inspire transformative and multidisciplinary actions for a resilient and thriving blue economy.

We have a vision in which Africans answer global challenges facing the world’s ocean through innovative blue financing, complex blended ocean governance models and frameworks (see Footnote) and informed and evidence- based approaches that are introspective and adaptive. Governance models and frameworks comprise both processes (for example Marine Spatial Planning) and products (for example, a Marine Spatial Plan) based on knowledge - policy – practice, in complex systems that require moving from Theory of Change to Theory of Transformation. Our approaches are adaptive to include MEL assessments of the efficacy of products and revision of processes if products are inadequate to achieve the required governance outcomes. We strive to ensure that solutions are interdisciplinary, scalable, inclusive and economically, socially and environmentally sustainable in their legacy.
Footnote: Ocean governance processes are best developed through an integrated blend of transdisciplinary ocean governance instruments including a) ecosystem-based instruments such as marine spatial planning (MSP), marine protected area expansion and management strategies (MPAES), and integrated coastal zone management (ICZM) that focus on protection, and b) sectoral management instruments, including for example fisheries regulations, offshore hydrocarbon exploration and production or waste discharge regulations that focus on production and consumption.
